A Sustainable Drive to Advance the Mechanics of Residential Energy Storage

Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, has officially announced the launch of its next-generation residential energy storage system (ESS), which leverages upgraded MG Series inverters to cover power ranges from 5 kW to 10 kW.

According to certain reports, the stated storage system arrives on the scene bearing features like full-power operation at 45 °C, active PID recovery and seamless backup power switching within 4ms. Thanks to that, the solution is able to help households stay powered even in extreme climates or unstable grid conditions,

Talk about the whole value proposition on a slightly deeper level, we begin from how the technology can scale effortlessly from 5kW to 80kW with support for up to eight units in parallel. This makes it an ideal choice for everything from compact apartments to spacious villas or future expansions. It’s also compatible, at launch, with mainstream third-party batteries.

Next up, we must take into account how the technology adapts to your power needs. Hence, no matter whether the technology has to work alongside PV-only setups or fully off-grid solutions, it is able to seamlessly support versatile configurations, including Battery Ready (install the inverter now and add batteries later) and Backup Only (a hybrid system without PV panels.

Another detail worth a mention relates to the availability of one smart port which enjoys triple functionalities. These functionalities include Graded Load Management, Diesel Generator Coordination, and PV Expansion.

Moving on, the hybrid inverter can also automatically switch to off-grid mode within just 4 milliseconds so to ensure uninterrupted power without light flicker or appliance shutdown.

Apart from that, we must expand upon the technology’s efficient design. Despite its small footprint, the system can deliver up to 200% overload output for 10 seconds. The same is evident in how, for instance, the MG6RL model can supply 12kW to instantly support high-power appliances like air conditioners, laundry machine during blackouts.

Complementing that would be the system’s whisper-quiet operation, considering it works with noise levels as low as 35 dB, which makes it quieter than a library.

The underlying technology further enjoys 200% DC input and 160% maximum output capacity. Here, a 6kW inverter can simultaneously provide 6kW of rated AC output while charging the battery with 3.6kW of DC power to ensure maximum energy utilization without compromise.

In case that wasn’t enough, the technology is also engineered to support up to 20A input current and remain compliant with virtually all PV modules on the market. As a result, no DC energy goes to waste, something which enables greater efficiency and seamless integration with your existing or future solar setup.

Joining that would be an aspect committed to defy heat. You see, the system maintains full power output even at 45 °C ambient temperature. On top of that, it ensures stable generation during peak heat hours, boosts self-consumption, and conserves battery power for when it’s truly needed.

Thanks to Sungrow’s patented PID ZERO® technology, the system even becomes industry’s first to actively recover from PID effects without disconnecting from the grid. Having this mechanism in place counteracts long-term power loss caused by heat and humidity, ensuring your PV modules stay efficient for around 25 years.

Hold on, we still have a few bits left to unpack, considering we haven’t yet touched upon the presence of an intuitive 4.3-inch full-color touchscreen, which is designed to offer real-time monitoring and complete local control. This means commissioning takes less than 30 seconds.

Alongside that, we have dual LED indicators that facilitate quick system checks at a glance. The left indicator basically shows system status, whereas on the other hand, right one displays battery state of charge (SOC).

We also haven’t touched upon how you can prepare for extreme weather or scheduled outages with a single click. The overall process involves activating fast battery charging from the grid and go from 30% to 100% SOC in just one hour.

Rounding up highlights would be the potential for AI-driven smart energy management. Using an integration with Sungrow’s iHomeManager, the new system will use AI to tailor energy strategies based on usage patterns, weather forecasts, dynamic electricity tariff, and extreme weather alerts.
