CS PowerTech’s Indiana facility boosts domestic solar production, creates skilled jobs, and supports a stronger renewable energy supply chain
Jeffersonville, Indiana, 4 August 2026 – The United States has taken another important step toward strengthening its clean energy manufacturing capabilities with the opening of CS PowerTech’s new solar cell manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The plant is expected to play a significant role in expanding domestic solar production while reducing reliance on imported solar components.
The facility represents an investment of nearly $1 billion and is expected to produce more than 6 gigawatts of solar cells annually once it reaches full production. It is also projected to create more than 1,200 skilled manufacturing, engineering, and technical jobs, providing a boost to the local economy while supporting the growing demand for renewable energy solutions.
One of the plant’s key highlights is its focus on manufacturing heterojunction solar cells, commonly known as HJT solar cells. These advanced solar cells are designed to deliver higher energy efficiency and improved performance compared to many conventional solar technologies. Their ability to generate more electricity from the same amount of sunlight makes them an attractive option for future solar energy projects.
The Indiana facility is expected to supply solar cells to the company’s module manufacturing plant in Mesquite, Texas. By producing both solar cells and solar modules within the United States, the company aims to build a more localized supply chain that can improve production efficiency and reduce dependence on overseas manufacturing.
The expansion comes at a time when countries around the world are investing heavily in renewable energy infrastructure. While solar panel assembly capacity has grown significantly in the United States in recent years, domestic production of solar cells has not expanded at the same pace.
